Boljun is an ancient town in northeastern Istria in the municipality of Lupoglav, built alongside a well-preserved medieval castle, with a comprehensive view of the fertile Boljunčica valley and the Učka mountain massif. From the 15th to the end of the 17th century, this “neither town nor village” was at its peak. It had its judges and prefects, brotherhoods looked after numerous church altars, and Glagolitic was written and taught. From then until Boljun loses its meaning and life almost stops, the town does not fall into disrepair, but even today, pleasantly surprises every excursionist with its sights.
